On October 25, 2025, in the Port Macquarie area, you can join a couple of low-key tours poking around the local water setup at Cowarra Dam and the Wauchope Water Treatment Plant. The morning one, running from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm, takes you along the dam wall for a stroll amid some scenic picnic spots and quirky artworks, then over to the plant to peek at how rainwater turns into something you can drink without a second thought. Its family-oriented with kids over six tagging along fine, though younger ones might find the dam's watery vibes a bit more exciting than the pipes.

In the afternoon, from 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm, the focus shifts to what happens after you flush, showing off the wastewater treatment and recycling process at these modern facilities. If youre the type who ponders where the suds go or how we keep things eco-friendly, this is your jam, but save it for the over 12s. Both sessions are free, but you need to register ahead to avoid showing up to an empty tour van.
