The Library Film Club is screening a documentary about Charmian Clift, one of Australias sharpest writers who had readers hanging on her Sydney Morning Herald columns back in the 1960s. Picture this: movie star looks, a stellar writing gig, and a marriage as fiery and creative as they come with George Johnston. But then she traded it all for the glamorous grind of a Greek island bohemian life, complete with famous mates, endless parties, booze, flings, and a hefty dose of poverty, which sadly ended in her suicide at 46.

Theres a fresh wave of interest in Clift these days, as her takes on issues that still bug Australia hit home, and folks want her to finally emerge from her husbands literary shadow. Its a free event but registration is needed. Happening Friday 23 January 2026 from 2 to 4 pm at Port Macquarie Library, 32 Grant Street, Port Macquarie, New South Wales 2444.
