The Future of Democracy series, brought to you by Nick Bryant and Rosalind Dixon in cahoots with the Sydney Writers Festival and UNSW Sydneys Resilient Democracy Lab, features philosopher and author A.C. Grayling unpacking the wobbles in his latest book For The People: Fighting Authoritarianism, Saving Democracy. Hell take a look at how those supposedly ironclad democratic setups and freedoms in the West have turned out to be about as sturdy as a house of cards when faced with authoritarian sneak attacks, the caprices of the loaded and influential, and civil liberties fading into the background like a bad sequel. As in his earlier reads like Who Owns the Moon and Discriminations, Grayling pokes at thorny politics and throws out some gutsy fixes.
Tickets go for fourteen bucks adult, nine dollars fifty for Glasshouse or Library members, and eleven for concessions. It is on Thursday 21 May 2026 from ten am to ten fifty five am at the Ross Family Studio on Clarence Street in Port Macquarie NSW 2444 Australia.
