If you happen to own a creature built more for speed than for conversation, or one that seems to be composed entirely of legs and anxiety, you should know that the first Sunday of each month is reserved for its kind. The Sighthound Social is back on the 5th of July, and all the usual suspects are welcome from greyhounds to whippets, Afghan hounds to anything else that looks like it was assembled by a committee of aerodynamicists. Bring your long-nosed, long-legged companion along, and while you sip a coffee on The Terrace, they can score a free pup cup and pretend they're not judging you for being slower.

The whole thing runs from 10am to midday at The Terrace at The Bowl, which you can find at 159 Hastings River Drive in Port Macquarie. Entry costs nothing, which is good because your dog has already pressured you into buying them something nicer than your own lunch. No need to register, just show up and let the hounds do what they do best: stare off into the middle distance and look elegant while doing it.
