The Birdrock Memorial Surfing Contest has been running since 1981, a nod to the Hastings Valley crew who paddled out and never quite made it back to shore, or at least hung up their boards for good. It pulls in locals old and new for a bit of reminiscing about the salty characters etched into the surf history books, like that one bloke who probably invented the barrel roll by accident.

This free gathering rolls from Saturday 30 May 2026 at 7am until Sunday 31 May at 4pm, hopping around as a mobile event from Middle Rock to North Haven along Beach Street in Bonny Hills, postcode 2445. Its just a short drive from Port Macquarie if youre keen to watch some waves get conquered.
